Engaged in the Heart of the Forest — Matthew & Callan

There’s something deeply special about returning to the place where your love story changed forever—and that’s exactly what we did for Matthew and Callan’s engagement session. Tucked away in a quiet corner of the Ochoco National Forest, this little pond holds years of memories for these two—of camping trips, hunting adventures, and most recently… a proposal.

When Matthew asked Callan to marry him, he hid the ring in their gun holster—fitting for a couple so connected to the outdoors. The two still laugh about how long it took Callan to find it. (She may or may not have needed a little nudge to finally pull it out!)

We returned to that same spot for their engagement session, surrounded by wildflowers, laughter, and the peaceful stillness only the forest can offer. The clouds drifted in and out, giving us a beautiful mix of soft and dappled light to work with—a dream for any photographer.

These two are tying the knot this August, and I absolutely cannot wait to capture their wedding day. If their session is any preview of what’s to come, it’s going to be full of heart, humor, and the kind of love that feels like home.
